Purpose, functionality and possible options for bed frames

Purpose, functionality and possible options for bed frames

Each bed consists of a frame and a base laid on it. Everything else is secondary - the legs, if the design provides for - a foot, a large headboard. The bed frame by design is a closed rectangle or square box, where the rack bottom is fixed. Legs support him (or he stands directly on the floor surface). Additionally, the frame performs a decorative function and can be made of wood, metal, plastic, chipboard. They can be thin and thick, low or high, the variety is just huge - for every taste and budget.

Design Features

You can sleep well on a comfortable orthopedic base with a mattress that is fixed to the legs. But the "naked" bed will not be comfortable and attractive in appearance. For this reason, the bed frame has several significant advantages and minor disadvantages:

  • Aesthetic function - the most important for any frame. He disguises the bed frame (you can say the metal base), is able to hide drawers designed to store some things;
  • On the frame is the base where the mattress is placed. It is not designed to withstand the mass of the mattress and the person lying on it, does not transfer the load to the floor, and it does not have orthopedic qualities, but without it a full bed will not be;
  • The frame 160x200 cm can be used as a horizontal cabinet;
  • Sometimes it is made soft, it is important for a family where there are small children;
  • If necessary, it can be replaced, for example, if it is damaged or choose a product with a different design. Everything else - the base and the mattress laid on it is not necessary to change;
  • This is the shell of the bed her face, it is made of any material, it can have the necessary color, or be fabric (upholstered textiles). A bed without a frame is not without flaws.

People can save some of the money and buy a good comfortable bed 1600x2000 mm, without a frame with a slatted bottom or mesh and a reliable metal or aluminum frame, but such a design will not be able to become a full replacement for the usual bed with a beautiful finish.

Speaking - frame, it implies the safest design for humans - between the individual rails of the bottom will not be able to crawl and get stuck in a leg or hand, various (often necessary) objects will not be able to roll under the base, and the whole room with such an interior item will sparkle with new shades.

Existing options

Conventionally, beds are divided into separate frames (without a rack bottom) and models with a complete design. A separate frame of 140x200 cm has a big plus - you can use any suitable size base - classic flat, orthopedic and focus on the place for the mattress, and on its design.In the design, you can embed boxes suitable for storage or make a custom frame, taking into account the characteristics of a person (for example, if he weighs a lot or tall), choose materials that suit you (use not a chipboard, but a solid wood) or just save a certain amount of money for this acquisition.

The finished bed, which includes both a frame for a bed 180x200 cm and a base, can be made of almost any material, they can be combined in design. Upholstery can be soft, it will give comfort to the bedroom, and the body can be made of wood, which improves the environmental friendliness of the design. The plus of beds in a complete set is that in their design all the necessary details are already provided, and there will be no need to scurry around in search of a separate element. In addition, ready-made models can often be used by massive people, as they have a solid, full-fledged metal frame, a suitable base and well-fixed lamellas.

Dimensions

The standard dimensions of this product are calculated taking into account information about the average weight and height of a person. For a good night's sleep, you need to have the bed size not less than 20 cm larger than your height. Width is personalized for each person, but according to the rules, it is required that the bent legs do not hang down, and from the back to the edge there should still be a minimum of 15 cm. The average height is 170 cm, so the length should be at least 190 cm. The width can be different depending on how many people the bed is designed for, and the manufacturing country - the standards in different countries differ.

  • California - 152x213 cm;
  • Olympic - 168x203 cm;
  • Oriental - beds 200x200 cm.

Sometimes it can be difficult for individuals to find a suitable design because of the unique layout of the bedroom. Materials

Array

For centuries people have been making wooden furniture, and now this material has not lost popularity. Elite interior manufacturers often use mahogany or teak and similar expensive materials. Raw materials are a bit simpler, but not worse in quality - an array of ash or oak, but at the cost of these frames are also not the cheapest. The most inexpensive material among the species of natural wood in our country is birch and pine, they allow you to make an environmentally friendly, reliable and beautiful bed frame.

Wood differs among other materials used in the manufacture of furniture, beautiful texture, can have a rich finish and it is able to give the bedroom a warm natural material. Often, manufacturers turn pine and birch by coloring into imitation of expensive wood or products made from these materials are finished with natural veneer. Externally, these decorated beds 120x200 cm (and other sizes) will look like an expensive product made of valuable wood.

Particleboard and MDF

Pressed wood is also often used in the manufacture of frames. This material is notable for its low cost and rich gamut of colors - here you can find black, white, red, and “wooden” colors that are familiar to everyone.

The disadvantage of MDF and particleboard is that this material is made with glue and chemical compounds that contain formaldehydes. For this reason, when buying a bed in a store, ask for a quality certificate and additionally try to evaluate the smell that comes from the bed, because it will smell like this for a long time, which can be annoying while relaxing.

Particleboard is loved by both buyers and manufacturers. The noble appearance of the surface, which is obtained by covering the plate with a laminate or veneer, turns 80x200 cm beds from an ordinary piece of furniture into a modern solution for decorating a bedroom. The same decorative layer “locks” any unpleasant odors from the binder.

Metal

Beds 160x200 cm, 180x200 cm, 200x210 cm made of metal have found their place in modern interiors due to the fact that they serve for a very long time. The metal frame is the most reliable of all possible designs of such furniture. Only the mattress has to be changed. Furniture with chrome details or artificially aged products, with eco-leather upholstered or fabric frame, with a soft back look good in a classic design.

Often, home craftsmen independently make a bed 160 by 190 cm from those materials that are easy to get. This makes it possible to save a lot of money. For example, a reliable podium is made of drywall, which serves as a bed frame with a place for laying a mattress. A bed with a frame is made from ordinary boards or plywood, and after that it is finished using additional materials. The base is made of a profile pipe and similar “cold” materials, followed by decorative finishes.

The body of the bed is made soft or trim only the back. Soft upholstery will give the bedroom a little comfort due to the fact that it will hide the "skeleton" of furniture.

Non-standard

Now in retail outlets, you can find many models of beds with non-standard and unusual frames:

  • An angular bed with a square frame will perfectly fit into the simple interior. Such products look harmonious even in rooms with a small area. Often such furniture is chosen for studio apartments. Often such interior elements are used for bedrooms made with a minimalist design;
  • Beds with a round, semicircular and oval frame attract attention. They can revive the room, but such models can not be used everywhere. Products of a round shape are usually large in size and require installation space, for this reason they can only be used in large bedrooms;
  • Functional beds without a headboard have now become popular, in which roomy drawers are provided, suitable for storing rarely used things. With the help of such additions they save the room from overweight and optional furniture in the bedroom, because now many things can not be put in cabinets, but simply hidden in the bed. Basically, such simple storage niches are equipped at the bottom of the furniture. And for products with a lifting mechanism, you can make roomy boxes where you can put even large items;
  • Graceful appearance able to boast of a design with a curved frame. Usually, these are beautiful products, as it were, curving in a wave, with high headboards, and with smooth slopes of the frame as a foot. Furniture of this kind is perfect for use in fashionable and modern ensembles. And for classic interiors, curved beds should not be used, they will not fit into them. Often in such designs there are barely noticeable small legs made of different materials;
  • Sliding structures are also common; they are folded and used as single beds, which are easy to fit into any room. And if you decompose such a product, it will be almost a king bed;
  • Multifunctional beds made in two or three tiers are in demand.Such furniture is very useful for families in which there are several children. But this furniture is intended not only for the child, now furniture factories have begun to produce products with strong frames, which adults can use. It should be noted that often such beds are equipped with functional places for storing things, and additionally sliding bookcases, tables or sofas.

Such examples for bedrooms can combine several functional areas. For example, using such an interior item, you can separate a bed for a lesson in a children's table.

The simplest non-standard models are beds with a longer frame than the usual length. Too high people have to make a frame for an individual order, they will not fit 90x200 beds. Usually, their length is 220 cm and more. Such a bed is more expensive than a standard one, but it is able to provide maximum comfort for the sleep of a tall person.

Non-standard bed frames can be either longer or narrower or wider than usual; there are intermediate sizes. They are useful if, for example, furniture needs to be installed in a specific place, but the dimensions of the frame do not allow this.
