Thanks to roller structures in everyday life, it has become much more convenient to use not only storage systems, but also furniture. And the simplicity of moving objects makes it easy to change the situation in the room without sacrificing flooring.

Supports for furniture

It is natural that the variety of furnishings involves the use of different types of videos. According to the type of design, the movable supports are divided into three types:

• Swivel - make it easy to maneuver when moving furniture in a small room. It is convenient when objects can be easily rotated in one place 360 ​​degrees. Used for installation on office and home furniture (tables, cabinets, poufs);
• Non-rotating (forward stroke) - allow you to quickly move furniture in spacious rooms without having to deploy it (pull-out parts of the sofa). Reliable fastenings withstand significant loads, but are not intended for the constant movement of objects;
• Castors with brake - thanks to a special device, you can lock the wheel and the rotary assembly.

To ensure that the furniture castors do not fail quickly, it is important to choose the correct method of mounting the wheels. Manufacturers offer several ways to fix them. The most common are:

• U-shaped profile - used when mounting the support on the end of the chipboard;
• The platform is the most popular form;
• The threaded pin is used in casters for office chairs;
• Mortise - a suitable option in the manufacture of furniture drawers.

Manufacturers use various materials for the production of wheels. Traditional are metal (steel or aluminum), plastic (reinforced). Furniture casters are most often covered with a special outer rim so as not to damage the floor covering when moving objects. A protective layer is made of rubber, Teflon or other high-strength polymeric materials.

Furniture wheels are available with bearings and hinges. Bearing rollers are better suited to give mobility to large furniture. They are reliable and quiet. The wheels are part of the accessories of the sliding door wardrobes and determine the ease of closing / opening the wings, smoothness of movement.To prevent dust from entering the wheel mechanism during operation, sealed bearings are used. Aluminum bearings provide silent movement of the rollers, while steel bearings are characterized by a long service life.

In the manufacture of cabinets, two opening systems are used: lower support and suspended.

1. The lower support is considered the most universal, since such a design can withstand doors of any weight, purpose. The main load falls on the rollers moving along the lower guide. And the upper guide is designed to fix the door;
2. In suspension systems, the support roller carriage moves along the upper rail. Similar constructions are equipped with interior doors and partitions.

Many companies are engaged in the production of sets for coupe doors and pay great attention to the quality of parts. When choosing products, the development of individual manufacturers should be taken into account: the German company Raumplus manufactures lower rollers from high-strength polyamide, which does not delaminate, and the bearing does not need lubrication. The Polish brand Indeco completes the lower rollers with a device that excludes the descent of the blade from the guide.

Parameters and dimensions

Functionality, the ability of the rollers to bear the load is determined by several factors: the material of manufacture, options for mounting the wheel and support, dimensions. To simplify the choice of wheels, take into account the following indicators:

• Carrying capacity - naturally, small diameter models can support less weight than large wheels. One can conditionally distinguish such correspondences: roller diameter 30 mm - 15 kg, 50 mm - from 25 to 40 kg, 60-75 mm - from 50 to 100 kg, 160 mm - 135 kg;
• The diameter of the rollers / height of the wheel support ranges from 15-195 mm;
• Roller systems are equipped with wheels, balls. The minimum width of the narrow wheel is 13 mm, wide - 42-47 mm;
• Material - steel and aluminum are used to produce reliable supports; wood is chosen to create exclusive products;
• Design and color are determined by the style of the interior. The hardware element (guide for the roller) can be white or brown. For interiors in the style of minimalism, high-tech, chrome support models are suitable. Office chairs or computer chairs are equipped with interesting clips of various colors.

Stationary rollers can be fixed with square plates or rectangular. On swivel models, the mounting plates come in square, rectangular shapes. The mortise wheel can have two plates (in different planes) for mounting.

Sliding systems

Given that the main load in the structures falls on the hardware, special attention is paid to its quality and reliability. Traditionally, durable plastic is used to make wheels. To create a protective rim are used: rubber, Teflon, tarmonide (hardened composite), steel.

If the door leafs have a significant mass, then rollers with metal bushings are installed. A door leaf weighing up to 60 kg is equipped with two pairs of rollers, four pairs are placed on a heavy canvas (but not more than 100 kg). On average, the design of the rollers must withstand 70 thousand openings.

Criterias of choice

Most often, manufacturers make all furnishings with conventional supports. Any attempt to rearrange bulky cabinets or sofas can damage the flooring. Also, many apartment owners are familiar with the situation when objects cannot be placed near the doorway, otherwise the door cannot be opened wide enough. Thanks to the rollers, you can experiment with the arrangement of things as many times as you like or install a non-standard and convenient door.

For furniture

The decor is a component of the interior and has important practical applications. The selection of appropriate rollers ensures the safety, reliability and durability of products:

• The main criterion for hardware is reliability. Therefore, it is desirable to know exactly the mass of the additional load on the furniture.Indeed, in the case of a soft corner, the additional weight can be several times the weight of the furniture. It is also important when buying office chairs, as very large and heavy people can use them. Choosing the right fittings will not only ensure safe operation, but also increase the life of the furniture;
• Quality materials components. The best option if the roller support for heavy furniture will be made of metal. Light objects (tables) can be equipped with plastic products;
• The design features of the rollers should ensure their reliable fixation to furniture;
• It is desirable to install supports with the possibility of rotation on small objects in order to increase the mobility of things, especially in small-sized rooms. It also matters for furniture that is usually turned - coffee tables, cabinets with equipment.
• Depending on the flooring in the home, the working surface of the wheels is selected. In rooms with hard floors (tiles, laminate, parquet) it is better to use rubber rollers that gently touch the surface and leave no residue. For rooms with floor decor (carpets, carpet), wheels with a metal coating of large diameter are suitable;
• It is advisable to install supports with soft coatings on office / work chairs, since the furniture moves on a small area of ​​the floor and the load on the surface will be increased;
• If periodically fixing the furniture in one position is required, then wheels with a stopper are installed (at least on two rollers). When it is necessary to provide the subject with absolute stability (table, stand), then all four wheels with stoppers are installed. The wheel is fixed when you press the key located on the bracket. To remove the brake, press the button again.

Acquiring any design, it is necessary to ensure that the rollers rotate smoothly, without squeaks.

For sliding systems

When arranging storage systems and sliding doors, certain requirements are made to fittings. Therefore, choosing components, pay attention to such points:

• Support rollers made of cheap plastic are inexpensive, but they are characterized by low strength, which leads to damage during shock loads and low life;
• The ideal option is rollers in which the wheels are made of metal and coated with Teflon protection;
• Sliding systems with a top suspension are highly reliable, since the carriage is reliably connected to the canvas. Such doors can be installed in the nursery. Installation of the system is more difficult than the lower support option, because the rollers are adjusted in two planes;
• When arranging massive doors of a large cabinet, it is recommended to install a combined opening system (supports are fixed below and above). This design requires high-quality installation and adjustment of all parts, but guarantees strength and reliability.

Furniture castors can be called a universal solution for moving items. The mobility of things makes it easy to pick up options for their convenient location, without the help of neighbors or movers. And thanks to the variety of materials and design, the wheels can become a real decoration of products.
