Overview of combined cabinets, what to look for when choosing

Such a concept as a combined cabinet combines various design options for the appearance of this interior item, its internal content. But still, first of all, a cabinet is called a combination cabinet, consisting of several modules, which may differ from each other. For example, one section has doors, and the other is open shelves. Such storage organization has many advantages, for which the combined version has earned special popularity, especially in conditions of small living space.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of a combination cabinet compared to other types of this furniture include:

  • maximum functionality - cabinets are made of various shapes, sizes, and are also equipped with all necessary internal filling. It can vary significantly depending on specific needs. For example, there are still combinations for documents or with the secretary used for writing;
  • many options for the combination of modules - provide the opportunity to realize almost any design ideas;
  • It is combined with any interior in a bedroom, a drawing room, a nursery;
  • wide price range;
  • any door design can be used;
  • space saving due to the storage of all items in one place, which allows not to put additional furniture - chests of drawers, cabinets.

There are practically no drawbacks in this option. Perhaps, only the dimensions of furniture can be ranked among them: it does not happen in small sizes. This, of course, does not allow you to place it anywhere in the room.

Combination Methods

A combined cabinet can have differences at once according to several basic criteria, which are just decisive in its functionality and beauty.

Façade

The facade of the cabinet, its design largely determines the appearance of the entire room where the furniture is located. It is worth considering that there are several distinguishing features here:

  • the number of wings or doors - most often starts from one or more. The most common because of the small living rooms is a combined double-wing cabinet;
  • casement design - swinging, a compartment or the presence of shelves without doors, allowing to flaunt contents, for example, books, photographs
  • manufacturing material - a combination of several materials at once is quite common. This approach allows you to most efficiently allocate resources, thereby reducing the cost of production for the seller and purchase for the client. For example, the main frame and some parts of furniture are made of chipboard, MDF, and other inexpensive and unpretentious materials. For decor, more expensive and interesting materials can be used.

Each door design has its pros and cons, but closets are becoming more common. One reason is the significant saving in space when opening sliding doors. This allows you to install them almost anywhere in the room. In addition, more often the wardrobe is built-in, which allows maximum use of all the space from floor to ceiling. But, nevertheless, the swing mechanism of the doors is considered more reliable.

The main materials are:

  • Particleboard and MDF - often taken as a basis. They make frames and discreet document cabinets, where these materials can be used independently or in combination with others;
  • plastic is an inexpensive practical material that looks very original. For modern furniture, its glossy version is often used;
  • mirror - more often used for hallways or bedrooms, but theoretically mirror elements can be found on any cabinets in all rooms. Such an insert has one very important advantage - it visually increases the space;
  • bamboo - is becoming more popular and complements a certain idea of the interior, usually made in oriental or ethnic style. The basis is MDF or particleboard, to which strips of bamboo are attached to the fabric;
  • wood is one of the most expensive materials, and therefore not the most common. But we must give it its due - a natural tree looks incredibly luxurious, especially decorated with carvings;
  • leatherette or genuine leather - have recently become quite popular, but have a high price. Most often used in a classic interior and combined with other materials such as metal, glass. As the basis for the skin, MDF or particleboard is used;
  • rattan - in Russia it is not used very often, but in countries where the rattan palm grows, it is used everywhere. In the cabinets they decorate part of the facade, occasionally - the cabinet completely;
  • glass and its modifications - lacomat, lacobel - are used quite often when filling furniture with an interior in the style of minimalism or hi-tech. Glass can be transparent or translucent, opaque - lakomat, tinted - lakobel;
  • decoracryl is a panel that consists of two different materials: acrylic and natural insert.

Design

As a design decor, quite a lot of modern techniques are used that combine perfectly with each other, creating a unique interior item:

  • veneer - used as a substitute for expensive natural wood;
  • film - used to protect and decor the ordinary surface of furniture, can be used independently;
  • matting paste - can be used independently on glass or a mirror. After its application, the surface becomes dull;
  • sandblasting - applied to the surface of a mirror or glass in the form of matte elements;
  • photo printing - allows you to create any image on the surface of the cabinet, characterized by high definition and brightness;
  • painting - performed on the surface of a glass or mirror with any colors, an MDF insert can act as a basis;
  • the stained-glass window on the facade of the cabinet is made in the form of a special film, which in appearance practically does not differ from the real stained-glass window and does not fade over time;
  • fusing - one of the types of stained glass on a mirror or glass surface, in which pieces of glass are laid out with a pattern, and then sintered at high temperatures;
  • spraying - an expensive procedure is performed with special substances, which allows to create a unique pattern;
  • Milling is a drawing method used mainly on the surface of veneer and MDF.

These are far from all possible options for decorating the cabinet facade.

Internal filling

The options for filling the compartments primarily depend on the purpose of the cabinet.Since such furniture is most often used for storing things, the internal device also meets this need. Modern interior design includes a large number of different options. For almost any cabinet variant, you can create a combination that combines the required number of certain elements that will bring convenience and functionality to this piece of furniture.

The main functional elements are:

  • rods - can be short or long. To maximize the use of space, they try to place 2 rods at once, if the width of the cabinet allows this;
  • shelves - can be of different depths (45-90 cm) and heights (more than 30 cm). Usually they are made stationary, but for deep cabinets a retractable option is used;
  • drawers - very convenient for storing small items and accessories: socks, belts, underwear. Now they are equipped with special dividers;
  • hangers for trousers - usually made retractable;
  • compartment with hooks - designed for outerwear in the hallway;
  • shelves for shoes - located at the bottom of the cabinet, while they may have a different look and shape;
  • hangers for small items and accessories - belts, ties, scarves.

If necessary, you can refuse some of the filling elements and add something necessary.
